  • Community Outreach & Education

The Community Outreach and Education Program partners with other nonprofits to help new immigrants better understand American systems and laws by offering an array of informational and educational workshops. Workshops focus on US immigration laws, civics and citizenship, the education system, financial literacy, healthcare, job training and career enhancement, and the child welfare system.

    • Pathway to US Citizenship Workshops are provided in partnership with the Queens Library New Americans Program. Since 2008, the monthly workshops have been helping eligible immigrants to apply for U.S. citizenship and build their civic knowledge.  The two-hour, 4-session series of  workshops are offered  monthly in English at different neighborhoods in Queens.  Each session covers different topics including the  barriers to naturalization, requirements for citizenship, documentation needed, and the citizenship interview.
    • Adult ESOL Classes have been provided at Astoria public schools since 2007.  Immigrant parents are helped to acquire basic English language skills to enable them to more actively participate in their children’s education and to advocate on behalf of their families.
    • Legal Access Program has partnered with the Community Legal Resource Network (CLRN) to provide access to professional legal services and consultation with bi-lingual attorneys regarding naturalization, family petitions, and adjustment of legal status.
    • Girls Health Program is designed for 14-18 year old young women who have recently immigrated to the U.S.  The program’s emphasis is on providing a space where young girls can share their beliefs, concerns, and hopes in a safe environment, and is designed to help participants navigate social and academic challenges in school.
