On May 11, CIANA joined the New York Immigration Coalition’s Education Collaborative at Tweed Courthouse, headquarters of the NYC Department of Education, to push for equitable educational resources for immigrant youth in New York City. AAPI Coalition Gathers at City Hall to Call for Budget Equity
On May 5, the CIANA team joined members of the 18 Percent and Growing Campaign, representing over 40 different Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) nonprofits across the five boroughs of NYC on the steps of City Hall to call for this year's City budget to reflect the needs of New York's growing AAPI community. Meet the Volunteers: Nazifa Nasim, Elementary School Tutor
Volunteer tutor Nazifa Nasim, just like many of her students in CIANA’s Elementary Afterschool Program, comes from a South Asian immigrant family. Her own background informs how she approaches and engages with her young students, and gives her insight into the challenges that they may face in school.
