Purpose/Objective
The Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans (CIANA), Legal Services team provides free consultations to determine immigration relief, as well as provides low fee assistance with a variety of immigration applications. Our Legal Services team is looking for a highly personable, persistent, and detail-oriented Legal Intern to assist our immigration attorney with immigration cases.
Key Responsibilities
Schedule and confirm new appointments with clients
Manage correspondence between CIANA, clients, and other offices/agencies/institutions
Complete general and legal intake for new clients
Assist with legal appointments and aid in interpretation, especially if proficient in Arabic, Bengali, Spanish or other language(s)
Maintain and organize up to date client database and digital files
Perform legal research on issues of immigration law, draft memoranda, and report to the Director of Legal Services
Qualifications
This internship is for undergraduate students (with at least two years completed) and graduate students
Fluency in Spanish is required
Fluency in another language is a plus
Experience in one or more of the following:
Microsoft Office and Google Suite, especially Excel/Sheets
Research
Organization and filing
Counseling or customer service
Knowledge of or willingness to learn about immigration legal systems and processes
An independent self-starter who can manage time effectively to accommodate several projects at once
Time Commitment
Regular schedule required
15 - 20 hours a week during CIANA office hours (Monday-Friday, 10AM - 6PM)
Immediate start is preferred
Compensation
Unpaid, but may be completed for academic credit.
Training/Support Provided
Interns will undergo an orientation and training with CIANA staff.

Purpose/Objective
The Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans (CIANA) is working to educate our local communities on the importance of masks, vaccinations, and testing. CIANA is seeking Outreach interns to participate in our education/outreach efforts in Queens and other partner city-wide initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Distribute flyers, and table at events, fairs, and in various communities throughout Queens
Communicate with and educate community members on the citywide initiatives such as Test & Trace (T2), NYC Care, and COVID-19 vaccinations
Inform community members of CIANA’s various social services programs
Complete general intake of new clients
Conduct remote phone- banking when not conducting in-person community outreach
Make phone calls to immigrant clients and/or potential clients
Enter data into spreadsheets and maintain data in Google Sheets.
Qualifications
This internship is ideal for current undergraduate or graduate students
Keen awareness of immigration news and issues impacting immigrant communities
100% fluency in Spanish or Bengali
Experience in one or more of the following:
Community involvement/outreach/engagement
Public speaking/interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
Time Commitment
Flexible schedule
Outreach typically takes place in the mornings to mid-afternoons (10AM-1PM) and/or mid-late afternoons (2-5PM)
Occasional weekend and evening availability
Compensation
