Internship Opportunities

CIANA relies on a team of dedicated interns- students and recent graduates especially- to assist our staff in providing all areas of immigration services.
 
Internships are unpaid, but may be completed for academic credit. Explore our available positions below:

Education Administrative Intern

Position Overview

The Center for the Integration & Advancement of New Americans (CIANA) is a social services organization that works to integrate new immigrants from the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and Latin America into the socio-economic and civic life of American society while maintaining pride in their cultural heritage.

 

CIANA is seeking an Education Administrative Intern to carry out basic administrative tasks for our Education Programs. This is a great opportunity for a college student seeking to complete fieldwork hours and to gain hands-on experience in education or a non-profit organization.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer door, welcome guests to the office and direct them to the appropriate staff member

  • Conduct general intakes with clients and provide them with information for the service requested (ESL, Civics classes, legal services, etc.)

  • Enter new clients’ info into our database and Google platforms

  • Answer the main phone line, respond to inquiries, and take messages when necessary

  • Return calls to clients when needed

  • Help organize education materials both in the office and online

Qualifications

  • Fluency in another language is required (especially Spanish)

  • Interested in Education

  • Must be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Exhibits professional and courteous demeanor and phone etiquette

  • Respectful and sensitive to other cultures

  • Experience using Google Drive is strongly preferred

 

Location

Hybrid (virtual and/or in-person, depending on availability)

 

Time Commitment

15-20 hours per week during CIANA office hours (Monday-Friday, 10AM-6PM)

 

Compensation

Unpaid, but may be completed for academic credit.

 

Training/Support Provided

Interns will undergo an orientation and training with CIANA staff.

Case Management Intern

Position Overview

The Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans (CIANA) Case Management team provides job assistance, housing assistance, and public benefits application support, as well as referrals to other community and public resources. Our Case Management team is looking for highly personable, persistent, and detail-oriented Case Management Interns to assist our Case Managers with client services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and confirm new appointments with clients

  • Facilitate correspondence between CIANA, clients, and outside agencies

  • Complete general intake forms for new clients

  • Assist with case working appointments and aid in interpretation

  • Maintain and organize case management spreadsheets, database, and digital files

  • Organize and maintaining up-to-date digital files

  • Attending virtual trainings and coalition meetings with Case Manager and/or clients

Qualifications

  • This internship is for undergraduate students (with at least two years completed) or graduate students

  • Proficiency in Arabic, Bengali, Spanish, or another language is required

  • Experience in one or more of the following:

    • Phone-banking

    • Research

    • Organization and filing

    • Counseling or customer service

    • Microsoft Office and Google Suite, especially Excel/Sheets

  • Knowledge of public benefits

  • Regular schedule required

  • 15-20 hours a week during CIANA office hours (Monday-Friday, 10AM-6PM)

Legal Intern

Position Overview

The Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans (CIANA) Legal Services team provides free consultations to determine immigration relief, as well as provides low fee assistance with a variety of immigration applications. Our Legal Services team is looking for a highly personable, persistent, and detail-oriented Legal Intern to assist our attorney with immigration cases.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and confirm new appointments with clients

  • Manage correspondence between CIANA, clients, and other institutions

  • Complete general and legal intake for new clients

  • Assist with legal appointments and aid in interpretation, especially if proficient in Arabic, Bengali, Spanish or other languages

  • Maintain and organize up to date client database and digital files

  • Perform legal research on issues of immigration law, draft memoranda, and report to the director of Legal Services

 

Qualifications

  • This internship is for undergraduate students (with at least two years completed) or graduate students

  • Fluency in Spanish is required

  • Fluency in another language is a plus

  • Experience in one or more of the following:

    • Microsoft Office and Google Suite, especially Excel/Sheets

    • Knowledge of public benefits or willingness to learn

    • Research

    • Organization and filing

    • Counseling or customer service

  • An independent self-starter who can manage time effectively to accommodate several projects at once
