Immigration Legal Services at CIANA Enhanced by The New York Bar Foundation

The New York Bar Foundation grant program assists non-profit organizations with law-related projects across New York state that facilitate the delivery of civil legal services to those in need, improve the justice system and the law, enhance professional competence and ethics and increase public understanding of the law.

“Supporting the Foundation helps preserve a bedrock principle of our government – that everyone is entitled to equal access to justice,” said the Honorable Cheryl E. Chambers, Foundation President. “Without these vital programs that the Foundation and other charitable organizations support, justice would look very different for those who can afford an attorney than for those who cannot.”

The Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americas, Inc. (CIANA) recently received a grant from The New York Bar Foundation. The grant will be used to support our Immigration Legal Services program, which provides low-cost assistance with various immigration applications, including naturalization, adjustment of status, asylum, work permits, family petitions, DACA renewals, and fee waivers.

“Immigrant communities face enormous threats to their safety and wellbeing that can be mitigated through obtaining proper legal assistance, following procedures, and meeting deadlines,” remarked Emira Habiby Browne, Founder and CEO of CIANA. “The New York Bar Foundation’s support will help us meet the urgency of this moment and put immigrants on a path to lawful status.”

The Foundation recently allocated more than $668,000 in grants to ninety-five programs across New York State. Lucia Whisenand, chair of the Grants Review Committee, noted “The non-profits that we support help make justice a reality for millions of people throughout New York State.”

The New York Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. To learn more about the Foundation visit www.tnybf.org.
